Removing all electronics

What's involved? Can the car run well without o2 sensor, ccc q-jet, dist, etc? I'm only getting around 9-10 mpg as it is. Changed plugs, wires, oil, running 2.73s, and a 305.

I've read some topics but I'm unsure of what the TCC lockup function is and why it's needed... other than that, I haven't seen any issue in removing everything and going to non-computer controlled.

Input?

Re: Removing all electronics

Its not that hard, but time consuming and you gotta buy some new parts. New intake, carb, HEI distrubutor. The TCC lockup is torque converter lockup. Its not NEEDED, but recommended. It keeps the torque converter from slipping while cruising at higher speeds, meaning it gives you better gas mileage on the freeway. After you get the new parts installed, you have to figure out the wiring. You can modify your stock harness correctly to work, but it takes time and effort. There is a thread here that will help a lot.

If youre getting that bad gas mileage with stock components there is something wrong. Id suggest taking it somewhere and getting a full tune up. It would probably wind up being cheaper than replacing things. And if you don't know how to properly tune the new carb, you're not gonna be any better off anyway.

Re: Removing all electronics

I figured, but the damn places around here are quoting $500 for a "full" tuneup and I've already done the plugs, wires, rotor, and oil. What all am I missing? I mean the car runs fine, but it gets horse **** mileage even when I lug it at the lowest RPM possible. No more than 1500 on the highways, etc. Driving like an old person in town, too.

Re: Removing all electronics

Yeah it sucks, I have a 2000 mile trip to make out to AZ and my 07 escalade with rooftop storage makes better mileage... I want to get this thing up to at least 18 on the highway before I go, but I don't know what the hell's going on with it.. drives great though.
