Re: tbi VS carb

tbi generally provides better fuel economy and emissions but it really depends on what you want to use the car for and what is required to keep it legal. In most states you have to maintain TBI to stay street legal. Federally you can't go back but I haven't heard of the EPA cracking down on somebody's car

Re: tbi VS carb

they should but I wouldn't do it. You'll be choking the engine and you can keep the FI with the heads from a 96. pretty much all SBC heads are the same except for a minor change in the bolt hole pattern for the intake manifold. you get TBI intakes for older heads and new heads with the updated bolt pattern. or you can elongate the holes so everything lines up but I don't like that idea, just doesn't seem like it would hold reliably

Torque is effected by cam selection, head size, and intake design. there is no real scenario in which a carb is better, just cheaper. FI is always going to be more efficient and peak engine efficiency also happens at peak torque. but you can't say fuel injection is just going to give more torque on the same engine. When building an engine you have to think about everything as a whole. THere isn't really one part that will decide how the engine behaves. The better an engine works together and all of the parts are matched the better the end result.

the only reason why I want to use the 305 heads is cause the 96 motor dont come with the heads.I check summitracing out and the info I get is 96-02 heads will only fit those motor, vortech or non and 87-95 heads will only fit 87-95 blocks and 62-86 heads will only fit those year blocks.96 and up heads have the 4 center bolt drill strait down right?
