Torrington Bearing and Gear Drive for street use?
I can't remember if my Pete Jackson Gear drive had a torrington bearing built in on it or not now....
Anyways I don't think I can stand the noisy sound anymore. It's actually louder than my exhaust. I'm thinking of switching to http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G6700-Q/
Anyone know how much more quieter those are compared to the noisy ones? Maybe I would be better off just going to to a double roller chain.
Can anyone recommend a good timing gear puller? Does the $15 off the shelf AutoZone ones work okay?
Specs:
383 SBC 4-bolt mid 70s block
Solid Roller Comp Cam
Comp Cam 3 piece timing cover
Cam Button with needle bearings built in to prevent walking
Noisy Pete Jackson Geardrive
bolt lockplate

Actually I just remembered my cam button didn't fit through the gear drive so I had to take it apart (remove the snap ring on the button) and put it back together on the drive itself. I didn't have to worry about a Torrington Bearing (block protector) that way. Anyways any feedback would be great.

IMO the Pete Jackson "quiet" gear drive is anything but quiet. That summit set is probably the same, they're straight cut gears so its not going to be quiet. If you are tired of the noise, buy a chain or belt drive.

I always thought Timing Chains even if double rollers weren't a good idea once around 7000 RPM or above?
