weird tumbling noise

I have a question. Everytime I slow down to a stop or speed up on the freeway (going 75 mph), it sounds like theres a loud tumbling noise coming from the fuel tank (my guess). It's loud enough to hear in the car, but the sound is coming from the rear trunk area.

It gets fuel just fine and doesn't lose power, but this noise is decently loud and annoying. It doesn't make that noise as much when it has a full tank, but when it gets lower (half tank or lower), the tumbling noise starts to make its presence known more often/frequently.

I have the slightest idea on what is causing it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I suggest doing a "yank and pull" visual inspection. Start at the trans mount and move rearward.

Yank and pull huh? What do you think would be causing this kind of noise in your opinion?

I really don't wanna drop the gas tank and find out i'm wrong.

I'm gonna try and get the car in the shop and put it on the lift. I'll have a better view of it to tinker around.

I guess I'd be surprised if the tank is the culprit--and I'd certainly examine/eliminate everything else before I moved to it.

Re: weird tumbling noise

I told my friend from the shop and he said it could be an exhaust hanger. I'll have it on the lift tommorow

Re: weird tumbling noise

Alrighty, good news. Did a yank and pull test, along with a thorough visual inspection. Nothing came up.

However, we went for a test drive and it made the same noise. I took out the spare in the passenger rear side and noticed it's big enough inside to have some tumbling noise goin on.

The worker and I heard it come from inside, but it sounds like the rear driver side. My question is, how do I take apart the rear panel (the one that has a funky storage compartment)? Passenger is easy, but drivers side looks a bit difficult. Any suggestions?

Re: weird tumbling noise

Anyone have any suggestions? I looked through the repair manual and it doesn't mention anything on how to disassemble it. :/
