Steering box size
Hey all, I've got a lot of slack in my steering that I've narrowed down to the steering box. Tightening the bolt doesnt help. I'm looking to get a steering box from the local u-pull-it, but they don't have any firebirds.. actually none in my area does it seems. One told me I could use a box from the same year S-10 truck because they were the same size. I have a 92 Firebird GTA.
Part of my brain says this makes good sense and another part says this needs to be verified. Has anyone else heard of this ? What size steering box do I have then?

Buy a refurbed steering gear from a quality autoparts store. At this point you're taking a risk buying a well used part, and while another model car's gear might bolt in, it's most likely going to be a downgrade from what your car had originally.

Odds are much more likely it's the rag joint rather than the box itself. But now that you've messed with the preload, you might as well replace that too.
