Re: CAM upgrade?
Anything with a rough idle is going to require a reprogrammed chip.
And if you're sticking with stock TPI, it will be detrimental to go with a cam with much lope at all. About the time the cam gets to its happy rpm, the TPI will give up the ghost as far as airflow goes.
We need more info here as far as what you're willing to do to support more cam.

well for at first..the sound.....but i dont wanna take a step back put it that way...just a nice upgrade that gives me that yummy sound lol.....i dont know too much about cams but what about a Lt4 hot cam kit? i dont think it would work in my car but u never know with a chevy small block because they all are pretty close to the same...i would be happy with the sound that i hear comming from the Lt4...and i will chip it but i have no idea of what chip or what to do that way..its an auto by the way too so that always messes with things..i just dont want to be like rewiring the car to make it think it is a lt1 or any long and confusing crap...and if i cant get a lot of lope i will just go with the best i can with a chip and moddified exhaust...

Re: CAM upgrade?
if you can wait a lil bit, now that crane is back they have a line called "compu cam", i used a compu cam 2030 in a 305 and it had a nice lil lope to it, and the point of them is to be used with computer controlled engines with no tuning required. they are just starting to release sutff back to the general public again and not all prfiles are avalible just yet, but they are supposedly "any day now". i myself am waiting on a " saturday night special" grind.

Re: CAM upgrade?
I hate to be the ball buster here but from personal experience....dont bother. The most i would do to a 305 is headers, exhaust then stop there. That alone will give you the sound you want. Dont waste your money on a 305 as i did back in my dumb days.
I went the whole route of Cam, carb, headers, intake, head work and it netted me a WHOPPING mid 14's at 90mph lol. Was just a huge waste of money.
With Headers and exhaust you will get the "seat in the pants" feeling as power is concerned. Save your money up and just put a 350 or better in it. You will thank me in the long run

While I do agree that you should go with a 350, if you really did all those things and ended up with mid 14's, you did them wrong.
To ccrise87, I wouldn't worry about how it sounds so much as how it runs. Headers will make it sound fairly good though, are affordable, and they can be transferred onto a 350 if you decided to go that route later.

Re: CAM upgrade?
Your probably right, i think my cam specs were a lift of 520 ish with stock 350 heads. She did pull nice upto 6600 tho :P But in the end its still just a 305....
I would get a nice exhaust system on the car and good set of headers, like 84z28 said, you can use that on a 350 if you ever wanted to go that route.

Re: CAM upgrade?
"An LT1 is the old tried and true Small Block Chevy, with some improvements like reverse flow cooling and distributorless ignition for example."
these aren't my words, i copied and pasted from google... as i myself never build an lt1, but from what i read, it should work, but im guessing the bump sticks dont have dizzy gears on them so you would have to have a DIS ignition system, and there might not be fuel pump lobe for a mechanical pump, so you would need a electric type... but thats just me assuming and guessing...

Re: CAM upgrade?
An LT1 or L98 cam would be your best bet if you don't want to make a lot of changes. Throw some 1.6 RR on there too. I think you'd be surprised what your 305 will do. No it isn't a 350 but your "5.0" will smoke any foxbody mustang on the road.

Re: CAM upgrade?
another option, if your willing to do the cam stab, comp has a line of"Thumper" bump sticks with the main intent of sound. they even have sets with timing gear instead of a chain(which don't work with knock sensors). don't know what the lsa's are but if are just worried about sound see if you can find one of them that will work with your set up.It'll sound real lope'y, but wont have the power to back it up from what I've read.. not the most efficient way to do it. one thing to e an 11-12 second car, its another to back it up. your choice really
LS4GXP.. with that lift, times and rpm.... id say your motor was being choked by the factory heads a little so soon. with some aftermarket airflow, id bet you would have been more impressed with your 305. and those also, would be transferable to a 350 in the future.
