torque specification on 1989 firebird 305.
Does anyone know what the torque specifications for tightening the rocker arms in a 1989 firebird 305. I am not sure what the process is to tighten them. Should I wait till the car is running and tighten until it's stops clicking and them 1/2 turn back like people are saying on the web?

there is no torque spec, and for good reason. The correct procedure is to make sure the one your adjusting is on the base circle of the cam, not at all on either ramp of the lobe, then spin the pishrod between a thumb and finger while tightening the rocker nut with your other hand. I'm right handed, so my right hand holds the ratchet/socket. Slowly tighten the nut until the pushrod becomes difficult to spin, then turn the nut at least another 90 degrees. Try that, then if you have trouble, report back.

yeah it didn't go so well on Sat night. I thought I had found something online telling me to torque it to 22 lb. I found out later what a mistake that was... After torquing them all I thought about it and I figured out there is no way they should be that tight. As I tried to loosen them 3 rod arm studs broke off. So now I have to take my heads off and bring it to a machine shop.
