Car will idle fine then die after a few seconds?
So i got a 92 rs with a 305 tbi. So the other morning i went to start my car and it would take few seconds to start but it would idle then die and then start right back up and do this over and over. after awhile it run just fine so i drove around to some stores then came home. i went to leave again about 45 min after i last shut my car off. and it started doing it again. this time i check conections and then checked the spray patterns of the injectors and were cone shaped a few times the spray when it would shut off, the injectors would have droplets come out. so after many trys it finaly was able to drive it so i went and got a new distributor. Because ive read that it could be the pickup coil or the ignition module. but after i did that it did the same thing, and it was doin what it did before a few more times. i got it to run and smelled rich then it would do this idle then die a few times then would run then it would start idle then die after a few seconds. i got to run again and drove it to a family friends house. I have searched all over to find out what it could be but i just wanna see if i could get the imput on my car problem. And its not my cat because there isnt one and i also have no smog pump.I have an open element, msd blaster coil, i advanced the timing 4*, accel cap and rotor, wire have some miles on them and had the plugs changed about 6000 miles ago with ac delcos.

Changed the fuel filter latley? The pump could be on it's way out too.
My Grand Cherokee was like that. Start then die. If I cycled the key a few times (to run the fuel pump) it would start and run ok. The pump wasn't building enough presure with one key cycle. What presure it was building, was leaking past it back into the tank.

Re: Car will idle fine then die after a few seconds?
So i listened to the fuel pump and it would prime about every third time it would run then die. I noticed that the dist. cap was rotated way to the right so i put it back to where it was before i changed out the distributor, and now when i crank it the motor seems to bind up cause the motor seems to rock everytime i cranck it. So any ideas?

Well i did the timing and its all good now. so i replaced the fuel filter and it is still doing it. the wierd thing is that once it wants to stay running it runs really well no hesitation at WOT or nothing. so right now im out of ideas and i really need some help.
