305 motor build for the winter
Hello i was wondering if anyone has copied the two main 305 motor builds that super chevy, and hot rodding has done? The 372 hp Chevy that Hate Me, And the 325hp build? Has this worked for anyone? What if you changed the bottom end into a 335 motor and spray a little shot of nos? Would this motor make a fun snappy motor that would be a killer on the street and perform well on the track.
Thanks
Please don't say 350, and 383 builds would be better if i wanted to do one i would i want to prove that chevy 5.0 s can make just as much power as a ford 5.0
Thanks

Me thinks you're going to be on the loosing end of that battle. I know you could make roughly 260rwhp+or- some without getting too radical. Buddy of mine had his running mid 13's, but the same cam and top end on a 350 got him mid-low 12's.

Re: 305 motor build for the winter
I'm talking about going fairly big on this like the article that superchevy did with standard aftermarket parts cam, heads, intake, etc got 372hp out of a 305 motor, i do realise i will lose some of this due to the driveterrian, what i'm saying is what will happen if this top end setup is thrown onto a bottom end that is stroked and bored to a 335, or 340 that would be pushin it, and being capable of taking a 100 shot of nitrous. Won't this be a snappy motor thats capable of runnin a high 11 at the track with spray?

Re: 305 motor build for the winter
my 305 went a 12.5 at 109 with everything in my sig minus the blower, when i was running mid 13s a 150 shot got me a 11.7 at 114, and that was all thru a 9in rear and a t-56 fully loaded interior, if i had a chance to do it all again i probobly would have used a 350 but theres still no reason you cant make good power with a 305.

Thats plenty of power, this car isn't gunna live at the strip, if it was i would of went out got a 400 small block and went crazy, I just want a little motor that is going to be very snappy on the street and to be able to say no its just a 305, and people look at you acward and say"that does sound or run like one" if you can run a low 12 on a 5 litre motor that is just great considering that the new camaro runs a 12.9 from the factory.
I do realize that there is no replacement for displacement but chevy put these motors in these cars for a reason.

Re: 305 motor build for the winter
What reason? cost? Who believes it cost any more to manufacture a 350? Mileage? The 350 can get it back by being able to pull the next-taller axle ratio. Emissions? please, the 'vette managed, year after year. I used to feel the way you do, that the 305 is just like a 350 with 45 fewer cubic inches. Guess what? It ain't so. That 4" bore is the secret. Chevy, Ford and Mopar all learned it. Even now, Ford is re-learning it, GM just recently re-learned it. That's why the 6.0 got a bigger bore than the 5.7, (bad for emissions, in theory) rather than a longer stroke (not as bad, in theory)The 305 debuted in time for the '76 Camaros. Fully half of all V8 Camaros got the 305. By the time the '77s came out, the truth about the 305 was known to every chevy guy in the U.S.A., and 305 sales dropped by nearly 90%. That alone should have convinced GM that the 305 was a mistake that needed to be discontinued, just like the 262 V8 of 1975. Sure a built 305 will spin the tires, but equal the Ford? stock for stock, obviously not. fully built versus fully built? no. But if you run a fully built 305 against a stock ford 5.0 and win, have you really proved anything? no

Re: 305 motor build for the winter
Thanks for your concerns but the fact is I live in Canada up here to find a decent 350 block your paying 400 to 700 dollars its not like the states where you can find a 4 bolt main block that is in good shape for 150 bucks, I already have a solid 305 motor that runs, and runs well, the 350 in the late 70s and 80s camaro are nothing to write they may have 10hp more from the factory and that is due to the exhaust and camshaft if i WANTED to build a 350 i would I don't want to I want to build a 305 that hauls. PLZ I've read these threads for years while i was in high school, i know the 350 is a more desireable block and for your money it is easier to get power out of. I don't want this thread to turn into ohhh 305s are junk build a 350 there is a million threads out there like it. I just want information and results from other people that have built a 305 for a little performance. THX
