Well although the rhyme and reason to the exhaust cross over port eludes me it does apparently make a difference. Not only do some require a restrictor installed but it also makes a difference which side you install it on. So long story short the intake manifold gasket should have come with instructions that will say what applications had restrictors and on what side.

It's a very simple deal. The EGR comes from the crossover ports on the heads. It feeds exhaust gasses into your intake manifold which also heats the manifold. If you don't want EGR or extra heat in your manifold, then block those crossover ports. The difference between open and restricted is irrelevant. It either flows exhaust into the intake manifold or it doesn't.

Although I agree that blocking the exhaust cross over will reduce the intake manifold temperatures (which can cause drive ability issues when the car starts cold) and eliminate the EGR valve's functionality I have to disagree that restricted or open makes no difference. If it truly made no difference they would not include it with every intake gasket set and they would not specify on what models and which side it is to be used on.
