Is my 6al shot?

Pro billet dizzy, blaster coil, setup has been running for almost two years, been running the box for over 3 years. Every now and then when power is disconnected for a few days, theres no spark to start.

Last night after a short burn, the car wouldn't restart, no spark. No power was found at the coil while turning the motor over. 10 minutes later the car fired up. The box is the 6al BTM model, 6462 I believe. The only thing we can come up with is that there is something wrong inside the box.

I'm not using the white wire from the box, magnetic pickup I think it is, using the other one.

Re: Is my 6al shot?

if you remove the pop rivits from the back of the box, You will probly see a little burnt spot in the lower left corner inside the box. Had this happen a lot, sounds like ur box is dieing.

But if he removes the rivits, then he cant send it back to MSD for repair.

They will repair the box for cheaper than a new one. But the rivits have to be intact.

Re: Is my 6al shot?

Well I've been wanting to get rid of this thing and get a digital 6. But I don't want to pawn it off on someone if it actually is a problem.

I suppose they are the only ones that know how to test them?

Re: Is my 6al shot?

get on msd's web site, I think they have a trouble shooting area to test the box if im not mistaken, and yea, if you pull the rivits they wont fix it, but the digital 6 is the way to go in my opinion!

Re: Is my 6al shot?

I was on there. The only "testing" they have is checking power wires and checking spark by jumping wires, no real testing. I just bought a digital 6.

The car has been running real rich at times, but the afr gauge reads lean, which most definitely means misfires. I sent an email to msd tech, I'll see what they say and probably send it in to get repaired.

And its rivEts damm*t.

Yea I know.....sucks, just another way to make them money, cant put fricken screws in the damn thing. Check ur plugs man, if it is running lean.......may have some white crud built up on them closing the gap and causing a missfire.

Re: Is my 6al shot?

Wasn't there a simple test where you looped the connector with a wire to test if the MSD is good or not? Think it was in the instructions don't feel like looking it up atm.

Re: Is my 6al shot?

Beats me, I threw it out long ago. Sold the car too. Couldnt justify $4k for a t56 swap. Bought a Ctsv instead. Done with MSD they suck.
