best double roller timing chain worth it?
Later this summer or fall I will put a LS1 CAM into my '87 305. How much benefit would be gained from adding a double roller timing chain?

They're not as quiet as a factory style chain but you'll never hear it anyway. It also won't last as long as a factory style chain.
It will be more than strong enough and much better than a factory chain. Just don't expect it to last 20+ years. All chains and gears will eventually wear out or stretch.
You don't have to buy a Comp Cams chain. A good Cloyes chain will do just as good. Don't buy the cheapest chain you can find. The offshore stuff isn't that great.

Stephen must have been asleep. You can't put an LS1 cam in a 305, and any Cloyes chain will far outlast any GM chain.

Re: best double roller timing chain worth it?
which one do you suggest? i know you wrote Cloyes but which one would you suggest for a slightly modified 305?
i went to a number of sites and saw a really strange range of prices.
this one was http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/se...90%20Chevrolet or is high - i think.
but this site was really low. http://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/mfr,CL...hrust%2BButton
does anyone know why the big difference?

I'm not into the LSx stuff so I don't know what fits into what.
Like everything else, there are chains of different quality. An entry level Cloyes chain kit will do fine especially for a street engine.

The better kits like a true roller just deduce friction

Re: best double roller timing chain worth it?
Sorry, I have an LT1 cam waiting to go in my '87 305 later this summer.
JEGS add says a double roller timing set could add 10hp - nice!
I noticed the COMP set is only ~ $10 more. Is this the better set?
