how to fix this head
86 iroc, 406tpi, auto, 4.10 rear.
Ok, this car hasnt run in 7 years I started it up this weekend, and it ran fine.
It has 2 cracked 882 heads on it. It will run fine for a few minutes, and all is well. IM BROKE; but my truck has 310k miles on it and it has started to knock a rod. So I need my iroc running to get to work and back until I can fix the crank on my truck. I have 2 462624 heads with 1.72 valves in it. I know that they are the worst heads in the world; but I have no money and I need a running vehicle. I know that i should at least put the 1.94 valves in the 624 heads. Here is my problem, what is involved in changing the valves from 1.72 to 1.94. Do they just grind new seats? Can I do it? Do they make a tool to use on a drill-press? Can someone explain the process before I put a set of 1.72 valves on a 400. I know it will work, but the 882 heads with 1.94 valves are bad enough, with 1.72 valves it will probably not go over 3000 rpm.
But the tire spinnng torque from 3000 to 1000 would be AWSOME!
I know the 624's are gonna crack, but they are free and in good shape.
I have a machine shop that will do it, but its 50 miles from here and 2 weeks till payday.
thoughts? I dont wanna spend any money on these 624 heads, but I do have a good set of 1.94 valves and I have to change the valve-springs andyway to match the cam,,,It is an old L-82 cam. Yea Buckets o' torque.
but nothing over 4500 rpm
Any help would be appreciated.
Just dont suggest that I buy any new heads,,Im broke

Re: how to fix this head
Having the heads cut is very straightforward, I've done this mod for dozens of customers, but aside from the 3-angle cut, you'll also need the 75-degree bowl hog, or you'll either be doing alot of porting, and risk damaging the newly cut seats, or find no benefit from the bigger valves, and if porting is cheaper for you than paying for the bowl hogging, be aware that you cannot do the porting before having the seats cut.

thanks for your replies guys, ill be calling the machine shop tomorrow.
My truck is a 94 s-10 4-banger with 310k miles. It'll be nice to burn some tires again.
