12480002 - LT4 Hot Cam kit (no ETA)

I just checked on the status of my backorder with Jeggs for the LT4 hotcam kit with springs and rockers (12480002). I placed the order on May 1, today is May 22. Originally they told me it would ship on May 18, then they moved it to May 22. Now they said there is a problem in with the camshaft in the manufacturing process and GM has suspended production indefinately (no eta). I called Summit, they told me the same thing. Called Scoggin-Dickey, same story so Im convinced that I wont be getting this cam anytime soon if at all.

I'm really bummed out because I designed my build around this cam/rockers/springs. I even invsted in the machining tools to do the head work myself and all that.

I have the 96 350 block with hyd roller cam and vortec heads. Its brand new still in the crate. I looked around and did find some interesting info on the beehive springs that dont require any machining to the stock vortec heads and will allow for the .525/.525 lift that the hot cam offers. Does anyone have first hand experience with this?

Anyway, I guess Im in the market for a different CAM with next to identical specs to the LT4 hot cam as I have read alot of good things about it and I would really like to stick to its spec.

Re: 12480002 - LT4 Hot Cam kit (no ETA)

I have resolved my own issue here. In case anyone else is as stubborn as me in wanting the LT4 setup, I was able to build the kit part by part with help from Pace performance. I guess the story behind the story is that Crane Cams went out of business and GMPP had outsourced the roller rockers in the kit to them. Pace was willing to substitute comparable competition cams roller rockers for the same price. If anyone cares, here is the parts list to put the kit together on your own:

1 camshaft (24502586)
1 LT4 spring kit (12495494)
1 LT4 spring cap kit (19171528)
1 valve key kit (12495503)
16 shims (10212809)
1 - comp cams roller 1.6 rockers (CCA1016-16)

Re: 12480002 - LT4 Hot Cam kit (no ETA)

Ok, I updated my previous post with the comp cams roller rocker part number.

My question now is when machining down the vavle seal boss, how far down do I need to go. I found the "its a spring thing" article on chevyhiperformance.com where they show a picture with the straight edge across the old boss height showing the new height is machined down a bit, but they dont show how much. does anyone know?

Re: 12480002 - LT4 Hot Cam kit (no ETA)

measure the installed heigth now and what the springs installed heigth is and subtract the 2 and that is the depth u want to go.

For example:
stock installed heigth is 2.25 and new springs are 2.5
2.5-2.25 = .25 is the amount needed to remove.

Re: 12480002 - LT4 Hot Cam kit (no ETA)

Are you talking about the spring seat depth? From what the article says, Im not supposed to change that. With comp cams viton seals CCA-529-16 Im just trying to figure out how far down to go wtih the valve guide cutter CCA-4726?

Sorry if Im just not following you. :-/
