406 ci build

So i'm building a 400 small block to drop into my camaro...

400 4 bolt main .030 over
Eagle steel crank, internal balance
Scat 5.7 in forged I beam connecting rods
Speed pro 16.2cc dish forged pistons
edlebrock performer rpm intake
MSD HEI
holley 750 vacuum secondary

I'm currently looking at Dart Iron Eagle heads, 64cc, 215cc intake, 2.05 valve

also considering comp cams xe284 (240/246 @.05, .507/.510 lift)
or
Lunati Voodo (233/241@.05, .504/.525 lift)

I'm mainly looking to use this car on the street, maybe the occasional trip to the track (not my daily driver or anything.)

Also I'm planning on running a 2800 stall on a th350

I calculated my cr to be around 10:1 with this setup, would that work with 92 octane?

What do you guys think on the heads and cam?

Any input or advice would be appreciated

Re: 406 ci build

before i say anything, what kind of power are you looking for?? what rpm range and shift point?? also, what kind of times you want to run?

basically, what are you main goals for this motor??

Re: 406 ci build

in that case, you would want the 215's and the cam will determine how it reacts.. to get what you really want, a custom cam is the best bet.. most lower rpm off the shelf cams dont have enough lift or duration to reach your goal.. call comp cams for a custom grind.. 400rwhp usually comes with a price tag of shifting at 6500+..

Re: 406 ci build

Comp does not really "custom grind" cams, at least not in the way that cammotion and some other custom cam companies do.

With a street motor like this I doubt you will see any serious gains from an expensive custom cam, either one of the cams listed should work well, I would lean twords the VooDoo, but either one will work.

I would reccomend a mechanical secondary carb, some steeper rear gears than in your sig, and a bigger converter, if you really want to make the best of this combo.

Did you go with the 406, or did you end up going the 350 route?

Re: 406 ci build

If the budget allows look at some aluminum heads, Dart, AFR, etc. They will help with weight which in turn helps with E.T.'s and also will help dissipate heat. I would call Comp Cams and they will lead you in the right direction weather it be custom or off the self.
