lifter adjustment

so i was pulling into the mall parking lot the other day and as i am getting out, a guy says he likes my car but that it sounds like i need to get my solid lifters adjusted.
first of all, i didnt know i had solid lifters, and that you could tell by listening, but if i do in fact have solid lifters, as the guy said, should i take it somewhere to get it adjusted or can i do it easily.

the car does sound a bit ticky from the out side, not like a lifter tick, but like all of them are making noise.
also, one time i was way down on oil (i had about a quart in the car) and i didnt hear any valve noise, so this furthers my theory that i might have solid lifters.

what do you guys think

Re: lifter adjustment

Is your motor factory?? Unless you put a solid roller cam or someone before you whom owned it..you don't have one in there....what year is motor/car??? You might need to adjust ROCKERS but usually they don't come out of adjustment....now people also mistake rockers out of adjustment with exhaust leaks and also, especially on tuned port motors, the ticking of the fuel injectors. Start you car and listen as best you can where the ticking is coming from. Maybe fuel injectors. Does it get louder when under a load (driving) and pressing on the gas??(might be exhaust leak if so)...But give us some specs on your motor and we might be able to help you further...anyways I hope that helped some.

Re: lifter adjustment

I have no idea what's in the motor but it's not stock. The prev owner built it. I figured it was my headers but what do I know. I'll try and get a sound clip up.

Re: lifter adjustment

From in the car all I hear is the muffler
With the hood open from the front of the car it's a ticking whirring mess and I can't hear any muffler noise.
