So while cruising randomly the rpms will drop, check engine lights up, and out of no where the rpms go back up and its like nothing happened. This happens in around 2 seconds. This occurs randomly, hard acceleration, normal, and constant speed. Scanned for codes, its clean.

Its a 87 305tpi auto

I checked all my timing components. Ohmed my wires, the plugs are newer and a nice tan color. cap and roter are in good shape , timing at 6* New o2 new cat.

This has been happening for about a month. the O2 and cat are 2 weeks old so that should be out of the question.

Other then this, it runs great. It has me stumped

 

New awkward problem. the car would not start. i reset the computer and it fired right up. then it happened again. did the same and it fired up. what could be the cause of this?

 

bump. still keeps happening and still no codes come up

 

How do you reset the computer?

 

disconnect the battery for a few mins. then it starts just fine
