Does the pump turn on for a few seconds when you turn the key on?

Re: IROC-Z HARD TO START

When it does start, does it "chug" for a bit before it idles normal? Any black smoke out of the tailpipes when it does fire? Do you own a fuel pressure gage?

Re: IROC-Z HARD TO START

It's most likely your fuel injectors. If you still have the original injectors, GM put out a bulletin (not a recall) about a possibility of their injectors leaking. What happens is that as your car sits, the injectors leak fuel into your engine and causes your engine to act like it is "flooded" when you start, thus the long cranking time.

I had this problem back in '92 on my '87 Iroz. Luckily GM honoured their warranty eventhough it was expired. They replaced all of the injectors free.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Re: IROC-Z HARD TO START

Because the MAF and Fuel pump relays are side by side i would trust the physical location even though the manual shows it to be in the center of the 3. Use wire colors to identify the relays.

The MAF & Burn OFF relays have a dark blue wire that goes between them the fuel pump relay has no blue wire, a green/wht wire goes from it to the ECM.

What would it mean if it chugged before it idled right?. My carbed 86 has a little trouble starting after it gets warm sometimes and it take a second to idle right, any other time it starts at the first turn of the key.
