Random Starting/idling issue (AKA My Camaro's new trick!)
I haven't had a chance to look into this at all yet. This only happens sometimes and seems to fix itself. The rest of the time the car starts normally and runs just fine. This is my '91 305 TBI. Here are the symptoms:
1. Have to give it some throttle to get it started. Without it the motor fires and then just dies.
2. Once it is running it idles REALLY low. About 400RPM or so. Even when the motor is cold.
3. It will also sometimes happen when the motor is warm.
4. I do hear the fuel pump prime when the key is turned to the run position.
5. Check engine light is not on.
6. Timing is set correctly.
7. When it is in it's "mood" it seems to have a bit more power for some reason.
8. It will run like this a whole trip to work and sometimes when I go to start it to goto lunch or home it starts right up and runs normally. It never seems to "fix" itself while driving. Just between trips when it is stopped.
I have a OBDI scan tool (Also has the monitoring feature). It hasn't happened since I started carrying it in my car. I was thinking about checking what the O2 sensor (There are 2 on my car right?) is doing. Check the cross counts and everything. Maybe my CTS temp when I first start it.
I'm at work right now thinking about it and just wanted to see what you guys think.
