1985 Z28..no "signal" from ingnition to starter solenoid
This one has me puzzled.....
1985 Z28.
Turn the key, will not send signal to the starter solenoid. Turn to "on", operates as it should...but as soon as I crank it full forward to start, gets the ign. "buzzer", but no signal to the solenoid
Jump the terminals, will engage starter.
Had a new neutral safety switch on-hand(from another Z I used to own, brand-new in the box), swapped it out...still no dice.
I've dealt with this for a couple of years, just wired in a starter button to circumvent the issue(weekend cruiser/summertime car)...but this won't get me past tech at ORP for the Tuesday night street drags, and quite frankly, I really DON'T like half-assing a repair.
No known breaks in wiring....suggestions?

Check for power back from the starter through connectors & switches (such as the neutral safety switch and ignition switch).

Re: 1985 Z28..no "signal" from ingnition to starter solenoid
could be the actual ignition switch at the back of the key in the column.
I've had that before on a previous car.
Took some time to find that out.
A few days without my car running. It was all so simple too.
Wanted to kick my own butt.
Test the ignition wires for continuity with the key in the start position.
Maybe that will be the problem.

Do you have an alarm? If it is disabled or you don't have one, check like "five7kid" said, see if power is going down to the solenoid. If not check at the ignition switch under the dash. I have seen where parts in the steering column have broke and the key will not turn far enough to engauge the starter. Is the tilt wheel loose?
Hope this helps!
