Re: alternator crackling

The bearings may be about to go out completely. Just before my clutch fan stuck it made some kind of crackling noise.
Take off the fan belt and check the bearings for wear/noise.

Re: alternator crackling

Duh.. When I mentioned my clutch fan noise it was because both items have bearings that can fail in the same way, giving off similar noises.. You wouldn't need to take off the belt to check the fan clutch bearings. Get the bearing?

SOUND ADVICE

.
.

To isolate the sound take a piece of hose and use it like a stethoscope.

WATCH OUT FOR MOVING PARTS !

You’ll find the source.

Re: alternator crackling

the belt isnt too tight the water pump is brand new and yeah they all line up fine i looked.... i know when i was putting in my water pump and i had to loosen the alternator and take the bracket off well i didnt disconnect the negative on my battery and sparked a little but it shouldnt be a problem and when i put a different one in it made the same noise anyways
