Need some help compleeting my TPI setup/swap.
Hey there...
I have a project going on for this winter on my 87 Camaro.
My car has a 305 computer controlled carbed engine with roller cam.
the car is a Sport coupe so it also has Air condition.
I have bought ALOT of parts but I am still a little bit worried about getting all the parts, so I hope some of you can help me complete my list.
I also have some few question when it comes to the fuel and fuel sending units.
This is the parts i have:
Lower intake manifold from 87-88 (with cold start injector) (center colts are right for my engine)
Upper plenum from an 86 Camaro IROC
Throttle body from an 86 Camaro
Runners from an 86 Camaro
Fuel Rails from an 86 Camaro
Complete wiring set from a 88 Camaro
ECM and PROM from a 88 305TPI Camaro
New TPI in-tank fuel pump
Air intake duct for Camaro with new air filters
Maf-Sensor
This is the parts i have newly bought and it is on their way:
New sensor kit from TPI parts.
New Injectors for 305 engine
New gasket's and o-rings and new bolts for the whole TPI setup.
New EGR valve
I think that mayby all, but now here is my questions:
Since I already have a COMPUTER CONTROLLED carb on my engine, that is almost like a TBI. My fuel pump sending unit has 4 outlets that goes forward to the engine. That means I don't have to change this right?
Because I've heard people said that if I am converting from carb to TPI the fuel sending unit must be changed.
And what about brackets and stuff?..Do I need any extra brackets when I already have a Camaro?. I mean, the throttle cable bracket?..is that the same one on carbed engines that it is on TPI engines?...Are there any other brackets I need for my swap?.
And I know that I have to change my In-tank pump, so the only way there is to DROP the tank I guess?...
What about the Distributor?..I have a 87 Camaro with roller cam. Do I need to change my distributor to get my TPI setup working??...
This is a lot of questions so I don't expect you to answer all of them, but please help me as much as you can with some of them..
Thanks...

Re: Need some help compleeting my TPI setup/swap.
I am doing a similar swop on a 92 RS going from TBI to TPI I think you will need the throttle cable and TV cable they are longer on a TPI car and don't forget TPI fuel lines they are a set of hard lines from the intake to the soft lines on the frame those lines are different if you have a V belt or serpentine
Hope this helps

Thanks..I appreciate every answer I get...Ok, i will have to buy a TV-cable and a throttle cable also. I will include this in my list.
I also know about the fuel lines from the fuel-rails to the frame.
I have a V belt on my engine
