Re: more engine information?
I have an 83 CFI motor in a parts car. I am driving 84 Z28 with a weak LG4 150 hp motor. I want to turn the 83 long block into a LB9 HO.I know the 83 has 9:5:1 comp so , if i put the LB9 cam in it is that it?I am trying to duplicate the 85 215hp LB9 in my weak 84 car.I plan on racing in a time trials and have to keep the motor stock.I am using the carb and intake manifold on the Ho motor.I know I probably won't get to 215 but I trying to make the intenals the same.Sound crazy but it needs to be a stock 305 and the most powerful was the LB9 85 @ 215hp.

Ah, okay, I remember discussion along that line.
Heads from LU5, LG4, and LB9 are the same. So, no differences there. The LG4 had dished pistons through 1984, so your early LG4 would have lower compression. LU5 and early LB9 would be the same flat-top with 4-valve reliefs.
LG4 and L69 intake manifolds were the same. The L69 had slightly different primary jetting and secondary rods/hangers, how much detail do they get into there?
It is interesting the '85 LB9 had the "best" cam, since it had the "worst" ECM, but the LU5 cam would be fine with a carb set-up.
I assume you would use the LU5 or LB9 exhaust.

Re: more engine information?
So, If I put the LB9 cam in the LU5 and use the crossfire exhaust and refit the carb I should be close to the 215hp. Why is the 85 ecm the worst?I am also gonna use the electric fan off the crossfire.

Re: more engine information?
the '86 computer was faster, with more memory, and more lines of code. I'm not sure when GM improved on that.

Oh, and by the way, the '91-'92 LB9 made 230 HP and 300 ft-lbs.
