I run the TPIS ZZ409. Gives a lot of torque and I still maintain 20mpg. Has a nice idle to

I am running the crower 00483:
221/230 @ .050 duration
.525 / .545 lift
on a 114 LSA
Very happy with this bump stick.

Re: Cams for 383??
I am keeping everything in my signature, heads, headers, HSR, etc...just adding 10:1 pistons in a 383 stoker...if it helps any...using 5.7 rod, I use the car on the street, weekends only, and run both 1/4 mile and auto cross racing as much as possible. I don't want a total top end cam...something that's good across the board (I know that's a lot to ask)...that why I was looking at those Comp extreme fuel injection cams, the xfi268hr is 1800-5800rpm range and states "Good low end and exceptional mid-range" specs are I believe 218/224 and .570/.565 lift. the xfi280hr is 2000-6000 and states "good mid-range and good top end" specs I believe are around 230 to 240 duration and .576/.570 on lift. PCMforLess will do my computer work for me.
I am going to take a look at the zz409 by tpis....how is the power band on that cam...is it a computer cam...how's it run and is it still weekend steetable. the same with the crower...I'll check right now.

Speed density will be different. For that computer you should look to keep above 110 lsa but you could go lower depending on duration and how well the tuner is.
218/224 XFI will give you a VERY flat torque curve with HSR and make a lowend monster for sure. Its good to near 6000 rpm on a 355 depending on setup. On a 383 i'd go atleast 220-224 on the intake duration and that XFI 230/236 cam would be a nice overall cam for a potent 383. Should rev to 6200 peak power and pull to 6500. Tighter duration split and 113 lsa should still make a flat torque curve and give you torque down low for a fun street car. Needs good valve train if you want to pull to over 6K tho. very aggressive cam lobe design but makes good power with good heads.
I dont know too much about procomps but 200cc is good for a 383. as long as the springs are there to handle the lift and pressure is good to keep lifter on the lobes, you'll be fine. Its a pretty good tuneable cam too with not so much overlap.
My 383 HSR setup uses AFR 195's with a 230/245 custom grind on a tight 109 lsa. Still makes loads of torque everywhere, 371wtq at 4000-4500 rpms thru the auto trans but that was with a hot motor. SHould be 380's or so once cooled down. Most 383's tho are closer to 400lb ft and i contribute my lower numbers to the duration split. Cam is abit nitrous friendly which is good as i spray the car.
For your goals, definately look to keep duration in the 220's on the intake. ZZ409 aint a bad choice at 226/226. abit lazier cam lobe design but it works good. Two other medium cams are CC503 by comp, 224/230 on a 112 or a 110 depending on what you want and the Crane/GM 846 cam which is a 222/230 i believe and it works well

Re: Cams for 383??
I have a custom grind XFI 224/230 on a 112lsa in my 383 and pulls very nice. Peak hp is about 5500 rpms.
I am looking at something bigger though. My setup is exactly as Orr's though. Just a smaller cam right now.

wishmaster has a nice setup too. Same as mine and Yenko's. AFR 195's on a 383 with abit less compression but 226/232 cam i think it was... and its workin well. Runs almost as fast as my car does on motor. His still needs tuned i bet and it should pick up
