where is the fuel filter and fuel pump???

hi im new here, ive only had my camaro for a couple of months and it just started giving me problems.

Anyhow im used to old cars and everything around the engine is much simpler, but on this car i cant find the fuel filter or fuel pump, which i think is whats givin me trouble....

Can yall tell me where they are?

im thinking theyre not even in the engine area...

this is 1991 camaro auto with a 88-89 350 TBI, no idea what car the engine came from but i think it was a truck. pretty sure this engine is similar to the 305 TBI

thanks for the help!

Re: where is the fuel filter and fuel pump???

well, your right that arent near the engine bay. the fuel filter is under the car, towords the rear axle along the frame. if im not mistaken. and as for the pump, carb is on the motor, f.i. is in the tank but for tbi...im not sure if its not on the motor then im guessing its in the tank. was it fuel injected before?

Re: where is the fuel filter and fuel pump???

alright thanks alot

well to tell you the truth the guy i bought it from didnt know much about the engine, but i guess its originally TBI

im not that worried about the fuel pump though, i just want to change the filter first and then if that doesnt work ill try the fuel pump, but if its in the tank its something i probably cant do anyways

any advice on changing the filter?

Re: where is the fuel filter and fuel pump???

the fuel pump is in the tank . the fuel filter is just in front of the tank on drivers side . fuel filter is about the size and shape of a drink can . spray down with penatrent of your choice and replace . pray it's only the filter , changeing fuel pump is a PITA . use search function at top of page for info on pump replace . good luck .

Re: where is the fuel filter and fuel pump???

ya a lil fuel, but not a lot do to it not being pressurised. and if you have a lift you can put your car on, then it shouldnt be to hard, i mean all you have to do is drop part of the exhaust, the whole rear end (drive shaft, brakes) then drop the tank...or pay bout 500 bucks for a shop to do it

Re: where is the fuel filter and fuel pump???

yeah i got the fuel filter, but i read on the label i must depressurize the gas line or what ever. I searched around the forum and saw that the gas might empty out if I dont do this. Im not an expert or anything, but what can I do to depressurize the system??????

Funny thing is the gas tank was almost empty, but I decided to put some gas in the tank to make it run. Ive had trouble starting the car, and It hasnt started in about 2 days, so maybe the gas lines dont have pressure anymore.

Please let me know.

THANKS FOR THE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: where is the fuel filter and fuel pump???

to depressureize the fuel lines you unplug the battery, of fuel pump fuse...the pump only pressureizes it when the run is in run/start. so the only gas that comes out is whats in the lines. and as for the gas tank empting, well if you suck on the line or somehow these is suckion on the line...then ya itll empty the tank.
how often did you try to start the car? remmeber that not only does the fuel filter have air in it, but the lines to. it has to work its way thought the system, every car is different. took my 88 v6 mpfi bout ten times at bout 10 sec cranking.
