Fixed rough idle... still failing Emissions for high hydrocarbons
So i figured out what was going on with my rough idle [Map vacum line had bee knocked off the manifold]
car runs great, pulls a bit harder, and doesnt smell like raw fuel anymore. drove it for a little bit to heat it up, gave it some WOT pulls to blow any crap in the exhaust out, then whent and got it tested.
and i failed for HC... again...
so im trying to figure out what needs to be done, im planning on a basic tuneup, but i wanted to see if anyone else had any ideas as to anything else i could do, since i need to get it pass emissions to drive, and the camaro is my sole vehicle, id like to do everything i can to help it pass.
The car is a 92RS 305 TBI mated to a 700R4 trans, only mod is a dynomax Ultra flo SS muffler, stock everything else. cat is a year old this month.
im planning on replacing the cap/rotor/wires/plugs/oil/air+oil filter, and most likely the o2 sensor while im at it, so no need to suggest that stuff, but anything other ideas are more then welcome.
now the test numbers
[test]: [limit]/[my numbers]
15mph
HC: 55/104
CO%: .22/.02
NO: 720/154
25mph
HC: 60/164
CO%: .32/.10
NO: 700/236
no i dont believe the timing has ever been touched on the vehicle, but im planning on trying to check it [long story but the main pulley isnt exactly easy to see/get to]
ive done some reading around and from what ive gathered high HC w/ very low CO% means its a lean condition, and could use more fuel? does anyone know for sure if this is true?
i would assume its running rich, since the HC are unburnt fuel, but its not REALLY rich, although it was running obscenly rich for about a month or so [exhaust reeked of raw fuel, and it was possibly dripping out of the pipes]
anyhelp is MUCH apreciated!

Re: Fixed rough idle... still failing Emissions for high hydrocarbons
well along your tuneup i would add in the IAC cleaning, tps check and a good can of seafoam to decarb that motor. POur 1/3 of it into the TB clowly, shut the car off and then let it sit, itll push out tons of carbon deposits if it has never been cleaned. I pushed my camaro through emissions this week, failed once and did the above and i passed great, did the 2 yr this time so i dont have to mess with that crap next year
hope it helps

last time i seafoamed a car about 15 minutes after i seafoamed it i spun 3 bearing and was out of oil.... so im gonna stay away from seafoam. but i will look into the other stuff

thats a shame, its good stuff. the only people i hear complaining about it are the ones who put it in the crankcase, because it dissolves build up (and the lubrication needed to operate your motor) which is why you let it idle for a few minutes, and never drive on it. If you do that nice thin layer of oil needed to spin your bearings, dissapears, metal on metal action and buh bye to the motor.
in the TB only cleans from the TB into the cylinders and im assuming would clean the intake valves fairly well
my opinion : never put anything into the crankcase that isnt oil or an additive made to operate with. Also just a note if you look on the boards and on seafoams website it says never drive on it

the concensus on the death of the celica [the last car that i seafoamed] was that is clean out build up that had taken the place of various seals over the last 17 years, and thus let oil leak out all over the place.

had same issue hydrocarbons were 565 and needed to be 220 or under...replaced egr valve only and passed with 220 exactly. also I would check the egr solenoid and lines..cheap easy fix and wont burn the bearings.
good luck

In anycase hows the progress on the car? did you figure out if you had the right sensor or not?

im on hold at the moment due to lack of spare funds [i really need to find another real job] but i have started pulling all the sensors and cleaning them, and im going to add an 02 sensor to my tune up parts, and hell i might grab a 3" cat to put on, and maybe even get my i pipe on here one of these days. ill make updates to this thread as things progress.
and i have NEVER put seafom in the crank case, the celica that died got about 3/4 of a bottle to the TB and the last 1/4 in the tank.

then there is no reason it would mess up the oil seals, doesnt make sense
