STARTER MOTOR WONT STOP CRAKING

My starter motor is behaving strangely. First it has the symptons of a dead battery, but I put a BRAND NEW 800 CCA battery. I then jump the starter direclty from the battery... Voala! It cranks nicely and healty!

I check the connections, try to crank the car with the keys, weird sound as it cranks, like is has no power, but pick up and it will NOT STOP CRANKING... I take the keys off the ingnition and nothing. Had to really fast disconnect the battery.

Connected the battery back, now the started spins, but nothing at the seloniod, and the key is out of the ignition.

If I go back and jump the started directly from the battery, all is well!

I wonder if I have a bad started seloniod, or a bad relay (Do camara have that??).

PLEASE HELP.. I AM GOING LOCO with this!

Sounds like the headers have cooked the solenoid. I'd change the starter and put on a heat shield, especially if the C/R is high (with 62cc chambers) and/or you're running cheap gas.

Or the starter wasn't installed with the very necessary 1/8" clearance between the starter pinion and the ring gear.

The starter had Heat shield and the headers are coated with Jet Hot. I use 95 Gas. Thanks for the ideas!

This is a new problem The Started have been on the car for many years, with heat shield. is I run a jumper cable from the battery to the started seloniod, there is no problem. I thing there is an electrical problem, something must be grounding... doesnot make sense. Thanks for the comments!
