NOW MY TIMING IS OFF! EST WIRE!!!

My timing is off,, and when i disconnect the est wire to set it,, the damn thing wont start! At first i tried doing it without discon the wire. It ran good till i stopped and restarted it. After that the timing jumped up, idle was high, and ses light came on! So i'm back to square one and i heard you have to discon the est wire to get an accurate timing? What now if it doesn't start??

By the way its all new, distributor with ecm, coil, wires, plugs, cap, rotor etc... stock parts.

Try setting it by ear first. I haven't even used a timing light in years, except to check my work.

Sounds like your a tooth or two off on your distributer....Throw a timing lite on it so you can figure out if your advanced or RETARDED.....

Have you figured it out yet??? How far were you off on the timing.....?
Keep the EST wire unpluged and turn it over and see how far your off by....

If you are off by quite abit and you can't move your distributer anymore you could always move all the spark plugs on your distributer forward or back. (I know it's back yard but it could get you close if you are off by a tooth or two....) Remember by doing that your changing your timing by 45* either way (360 devided by 8)

If your too advanced move the distributer or you plugs clockwise
If your after top dead center roll it counterclockwise

Good luck
