Key stuck.
My key is stuck in my '82 Camaro. Idk why. It worked great all day long and always for that matter. All of a sudden the key wont go into the lock position so it can be released and the car is in park. Please help. Thanks.

Re: Key stuck.
I would say that either your ignition switch is broken and needs to be replaced or the Park Lock Cable is broken or disconnected. The Park Lock Cable will not let you remove the key unless it indicates to the ignition switch that the transmission shifter is in the PARKED position.
Sounds like you may have to take the steering column apart to fix this.
Here is a sheet from the 82 Camaro Factory Assembly Manual describing the Park Lock Cable and its adjustments.

Ok. Well, It must be the cable or something cuz she sits in park just fine and it wont go to lock. But i dont understand why all of a sudden its broke. What can cause this to mess up?

Re: Key stuck.
The car is 26 years old now. They were not built to last forever. Also, what owner number of the car are you? Some folks are always hard on their cars, and things wear out/break because of that.

Re: Key stuck.
Im maybe the third. The car has almost 42,000 miles on it. It is very clean and original. The car has always started up great and shifted just fine. Thats why i dont understand. The key was in and out of the camaro all day long and worked fine until later in the day i went to remove the key and it wouldnt budge.

Mine did this too..I was driving around all day and at night when I went in it came out fine, but when I went to drop it off the next morning to get new tires it wouldn't come out. I couldn't start it or anything. Took apart the steering column and replaced the ignition switch and it's now perfect.
