Re: oil pressure sender

if your talking about the sending unit, its located on the side of the oil pan, little thing that sitcks out and has wires running to it, normally has a small oil leak around it

it would be located right above your oil filter.

Re: oil pressure sender

if it has an oil leak around it it's because the last guy didn't use teflon (plumbers) tape around the threads.

Thanks. Added to the seemingly never ending list of things to replace on this car.

Re: oil pressure sender

traditionally i wouldnt use plumbers tape, maybe liquid thread sealer, and most units ive seen have never been touched because people dont care to tear open their oil pan to fix a cosmetic leak that nobody sees lol
age is the leak factor in most cases

Re: oil pressure sender

Is there an easy visual inspection to tell if my oil pressure sender is bad? Or is it one of those just replace it and be done type things?

Re: oil pressure sender

does your oil pressure gauge give you a retarded reading? Like its not reading at all or its all over the place, if i remember correctly after i fixed mine and did an oil change i ran at a lil above the 1/2 mark on my gauge at idle and it would raise as rpm rasied like it should, its not a big deal but if you want to repalce it just do it to get it out of the way

Re: oil pressure sender

A quick question, if you replace the oil sending unit, will anything leak out?
Just wondering, I know if I remove some other sensors depending on where they are out stuff will leak out. So should I prepare for getting the oil out of my car before replacing the unit?

Re: oil pressure sender

yes oil will pour out, the sending unit is a do it while you there job, replace the unit when you go to do and oil change, and judging by our cars awesome 19 years old+ gaskets, expect the have to change the oil pan gasket too, drop the pan, swap the unit, put the gasket on and fill it up

Re: oil pressure sender

What tool do u use to remove the sender/switch??

I could not get mine out...I cannot get a wrench on it...the only thing I can think of is to go buy a closed end wrench, my best guess is that it is a 1-1/8??

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
