Ignition won't turn past ON to start
I'm in town in a parking lot and go to start my 89 Firebird. The key turns ON, but won't turn any further to start the car.
I removed and re-inserted the key several times with the same results. I banged around on it, and at one point I had a hard time getting the key out and noticed the key shaft will turn ON with no key in it as if there was one.
I'm guessing I'm gonna have to tear the crank shaft open. But I figured in the mean time to get it out of the parking lot, that I could hotwire it?? I can turn it ON and off, even though it doesn't need a key now. So, I should be able to hook up a push start button and get it started. Any articles?

Around how much are one of those?
Though, how can I hotwire it for a push button start so I can drive the thing and get it out of the parking lot across town? What wires do you cross? I don't want to pay $50 to get it towed.
It is trashed out anyways, and once I sell my Vette, I plan on getting a truck and trash the Firebird.

Re: Ignition won't turn past ON to start
I figured out it was the ignition cylinder. It was easy to get to. I bought a cheapo non-vats one from Autozone, and installed it. Though, I found the key was hard to put in and remove. So I took it back and ordered an AC Delco non-vats ignition cylinder. From the pic at Advance Auto Parts, it comes with "GM" keys.
I already had the vats bypassed below the steering column some time ago as once in a blue moon I would go and start the car and nothing would happen. When I got into the steering column, I noticed the yellow wire at the cylinder was broken.
Now, I won't have to hot wire the car no more.
