Difference between fuel tanks?
Hi...
I have a TPI project going on and just wanted to know what is the difference on a F.I Fuel Tank and a NON F.I Fuel tank?
I have a 87 305 Carbed engine that I am converting to TPI, and people only tell me to change the in-tank fuel pump and not the tank. That is not necesary.
Here is to links:
F.I Fuel tank
Non-F.I Fuel Tank

Never knew there was a difference....hmmm.... I know there were tanks that had special baffling inside, but they were interchangeable with the regular tank. Beware aftermarket tanks have issues like the old cap won't fit and the filler neck will be off by a little. You should be able to get the same "quality" tank from www.rockauto.com for allot less.

Re: Difference between fuel tanks?
All 3rd gen gas tanks are interchangeable physically.
Only diference is that thhe FI cars have the in-tank pump mounted on the float assembly, and the 91/92s have the built-in baffling for LOW level anti-starvation.
But....Don't swap your tank AT ALL. Just mount an external FI pump underneath the rear, near the filter, and your done. And when the FI pup goes out, you won't hafta drop the tank to change it out.

Ok..Sounds great. My plan was NOT to change the fuel tank anyway so then that is OK. But I have already bought a NEW in-tank TPI fuel pump so My plan was to drop down my tank and change the pump. And after that redo my fuel lines....
