Gauge needle problem.

Once in awhile my fuel gauge needle will move to other side of gauge and sit there. Idk if its old tech or faulty wiring? It eventually goes back to normal upon startup. Just recently my temp gauge did it too, i flicked the lense a few times and it went back to normal. Idk the problem.
