Random stalling... Cap?
Ok Ive had a 91 305 5speed Camaro for about 2 weeks and its stalled on me twice. One was in start-stop traffic. The other was in the middle of taking a left turn across a highway (AGGHHHH!). Both were engine warm and not over heating (acording to gauge). No sputter or anything, just off. Just as if I turned the key. The first time it stalled I was going fast enough to put in second and dump the clutch, twice with no avail. Third time it fired. And thats why Im worried it could be more than just a cap and rotor...

Usually when it cuts out as though you turned the key like that, it's a problem with the ignition module.

Well I didnt mean fully cut of as if ignition turn off. Everything is still working as if car is on. It just turns off clean...
Ignition module; thats in or outside of the distro? And I can get it tested, right?

It's in the distributor. If it's intermittently bad though, it will only test bad intermittently too.

It may be your issue, or it may not. A problem with the cap and rotor would appear completely different.

Re: Random stalling... Cap?
Actually my 89 did just this, but it was way more often. Did it till it ran no more. Replaced Cap and Rotor and off I went...
The Haynes manual says I have to pull the distro... But says nothing about replacing it, just says its the reverse of removal. Shouldnt I have to worry about timing? How do I reinstall it? Thanks for all your help and sorry for all the Q's.

Re: Random stalling... Cap?
you really have to be the judge of it, my car had the same problem, 86 305tpi, changed the cap and rotor, boom its fine now. but then again when i checked the cap, the contacts were all worn and would slide, also the rotors center was scratched up and cracked so i mean if the rotor and cap look fine, chances are its the ignition module

Do I need to remove the distro to get to the mod?
I may just do all three if I have enough flow. Preventive maintenence...

the module is only at the very top, covered with plastic and 2 bolts, its easy to take out because u dont have to disconnect all your spark plug wires or the distributor cap, but i would suggest u take all of it off and give it a good look through
