Timing Chain? (Misfires)

My car ran perfectly one night and than in the morning it started for about 10 seconds and turned off. I replaced the distributor cap and rotar because they were in bad shape and it still sounds like it is misfiring. It won't even start unless I give it some gas and it takes forever to rev up and I have to give it a lot of gas to do so. Could it be the timing chain and if so would I have to remove the whole serpintine setup to see?

It is definitely getting enough fuel I just tried starting it and it ran for 1-2 seconds and shut off and than next time it wouldn't turn on.

The timming chain in located under the timming cover so the water pump will have to come off. Sounds like the timming is retarded and this is what happens when the timming chain gets worn. Make sure the distrutor is not loose. Have you put a light on it yet to see where the timming is?

No I have not. I already removed the bumper, light enclosures, etc as I need new ones anyway since they are all broken from someone who ran into me from the side and damaged it

Re: Timing Chain? (Misfires)

Theres an easy way of checking if theres slop. Remove the dis. cap and leave the rotor on. Put a socket on the crank and turn it back and forth. If the rotor doesnt turn right away the chain is bad.

Re: Timing Chain? (Misfires)

How do I get the lower gear off? Also how do I align the 2 gears? It looks like it skipped a whole 180. The rotor is TDC
