Starter engaging on flexplate
I'm trying to install my flexplate on my new engine, and the starter is engaging on the flexplate. I thought I had a bent flexplate, so I bought another one and have the same problem. If I rotate it, I can get it to not hit at one point, but theres still not a lot of clearance. So now I'm left with either faulty starter, or where the flexplate bolts to the crank isn't true (I hope not). Is there something I'm missing? First pic is the most clearance I can get by rotating it, second is it hiting

Just to double check a few things.
You have a 383. So basically you have a crank out of a 400 CI motor in a 350 block.
Are you using an externally balanced Flexplate for a 400?

Re: Starter engaging on flexplate
Yea its a 383, but i used an aftermarket internally balanced crank from scat. I tried a brand new flexplate from scat as well as tci and have the same problem. I'm stumped, something is obviously bent or wrong because it makes no sense that at one point theres some clearance, and then at another it hits. I"m trying to track down another new starter so I can try that.
