deleteing emissions and advice?
hey guys, i am on the westren slope and i have an 86 t/a that i am wanting to take the emissions crap out of and clear up some room in the engine compartment. i am leaving most of the other stuff in, it isn't going to be an extreme build but that emissions is just in the way. does anyone kow if it's gonna start throwing codes and running like crap because i yanked the suff? new to building but am looking to learn as much as i can

Re: deleteing emissions and advice?
hi there there really isnt much need to remove the smog pump or really anything else unless there isa fault with it and it is non operational or causing a problem with the engine
the smog pump doesnt affect horsepower at all and actually helps things because it simply injects fresh cold air into the exhaust and makes any unburnt fuel in the exhaust burn completely
there really is no other emissions equipment other than the Q jet carb that has an electronic fuel mixture solenoid in it and other than that you have your EGR valve but that does not affect performance either and actually can help keep the engine runnig cooler anyways
a/c and other things are what takes up alot of the room under the hood
i personalyl never remove emissions equipment especially the AIr pump system unless it is broken or not working already
if the engine is running fine then i would leave well enough alone and save yourself headache and money and leave it alone
good luck

Are you building a show car or strip car?
If not, leave it on. Your grandkids will thank you.

it isn't a show car but isn't a strip car, just gonna drop a new engine in it eventually and i don't want all tat stuff that colorado doesn't require taking up space in there

But it is required, by the Federal government, and the state government, even if your area doesnt test for it. Please this board and the exhaust board, there are several heated threads about removing emissions equipment already.
