rocker arm adjustment
okay, i set off to adjust my rocker arms today, read up (with search) and what i thought i understood was that starting with #1 and going through the firing order when the intake lifter went up and back down (to nearly all the way down) you would adjust that exhaust rocker. and when the exhaust lifter starts to move up you do the intake (i did the exhaust and intake at seperate times so i did not get mixed up)
while i was doing them i felt *each* pushrod every time i adjusted one rocker, and sometimes the ones i had already "adjusted" were loose enough to move the pushrods up and down, so i know i did somthing wrong but i cannot figure out what
now i had to guess on which arm was intake and which exhaust (yes i am very new to all this, i know enough not to break anything....and thats about it XD) i could not find the answer to that searching google, or here. what i decided was the the arm closest to the nose of the car was exhaust, as that seems to be closer to the exhaust port. (is this my problem?)
do i have to start with #1 at tdc and rotate from there?( cause i didn't, never saw anything say i had to)
thanx guys

Re: rocker arm adjustment
The exhuast side will be closest to the exhuast port to the header.
1....3..5...7 <-- cylinder number
00.00.00.00 say these are the rocker arms
0....0.0.....0 and these are where the headers are attached to the heads.
Damn my little diagram thing isn;t showing up to good when I post it.
#1 exhuast would be at the front number 3 would be the second one number 5 the first one number 7 the second one.
You can start from #1 tdc or #6 tdc.

0 deg TDC, both number one valves shut.
Adjust the #1 exhaust valve
Adjust the #1 intake valve
Adjust the #3 exhaust valve
Adjust the #5 intake valve
Adjust the #7 intake valve
Adjust the #2 intake valve Adjust the #4 exhaust valve Adjust the #8 exhaust valve Now rotate the engine 360 degrees. The mark on the balancer should be back at the TDC mark. Keep in mind that this is not the TDC where #1 would be firing! It's where #6 would fire. Adjust the #3 intake valve Adjust the #5 exhaust valve Adjust the #7 exhaust valve Adjust the #2 exhaust valve Adjust the #4 intake valve Adjust the #6 exhaust valve Adjust the #6 intake valve Adjust the #8 intake valve Adjust the #1 exhaust valve
Adjust the #1 intake valve
Adjust the #3 exhaust valve
Adjust the #5 intake valve
Adjust the #7 intake valve
