All I've worked with directly are the "old" 3rd gens. I don't know for sure how the newer electronic speedometers work exactly. But, I believe the speedometer and odometer each have their own stepper motor.
Most likely, the easiest fix would be to find another speedometer assembly. But, I don't know that for a fact.
