350 chev engine code help
i got the engine number off my block on the driver side it is 3970010
all i could find out with it is this
1969-79 350ci 185hp low-370hp high-2 or 4 bolt main-car, truck, Vette
Can you tell more from it?

also, as a side question, it has a giant harmonic balancer what does this mean?

Very common 70's block. Nothing special about it. Used in trucks to Vettes.
A large harmonic damper is typically a good thing. However, design is more important than size, condition comes right after that - most likely this one is a factory damper.

Re: 350 chev engine code help
check behind the timing chain cover for a 10 20 casting on the block, it might be a high nickel block, witch dont amount to much other than it might be a little stronger block then normal, more ware resistant then anything....

Groan....
It's an 010 block, the single most common engine casting on planet earth.
I have one. Heck, I bet 75% of this board has that block casting #.
Nothing special or unique. Just use it and go from there. Should have an 8" damper, just like all other 350's.

Re: 350 chev engine code help
its larger than your average damper, biggest one i ever had on any of my small blocks
it has been balanced would that require a damper mod?
the motor has had 2500$ worth of work not including some parts so i dunno if it requires it, but im sure its like that 4 a reason.

Unless you are installing it unmodified, it really doesn't matter what it once had.

Re: 350 chev engine code help
Ok Got another one same cast number but I got more numbers, I have some numbers but no resources for them, Its numbers are 101198670 K0625CNR I know what its third number is 3970010, it tells me same as my other 350 but this one is different. The first two numbers i guess are supposed to tell you everything. Anyone have the resource for the first two numbers found above the head towards the intake?
