Will VSS cause car to stall?

Hi all. Just got my car up and running. Runs awesome until you drive it a little, then upon coming to stops, it will struggle to stay running and will ussually stall. I'm getting a VSS code because the speed sensor is not hooked up right now, and a TPS low voltage code which I think is old because it's been re-adjusted. Could not having the VSS hooked up cause the car to stall? If I start it up and let it run till it's warm, it idles beautifully....seems like it only stalls when I drive it.

Well, I doubt its your vss, since your computer is recognizing the vss isnt working it won't be using the input. TPS may be a problem even though it is set, there may be a "dead spot" when you open the throttle. But your experiencing problems when the car is idling. Do you still have a stock PROM? Your cam profile may be throwing off your computer.

Yes, the vss being disconnected will cause your car to stall at stops. The computer uses the vss input to let the computer know you are decelerating so it adjusts the IAC accordingly to keep it from stalling. Get your VSS connected and your stalling at stops will go away.

I installed the VSS override switch on my 91 RS and when i turn it off at really low speeds it stalls out, so i agree with battman. Its good to see you got your car running WhiteDevil. I bought some parts off your brother and saw your car and i must say its pretty sick.

Well thats very good to know! The tranny has a newer VSS in it, so I just need to swap it with the style that my plug fits into, and that problem will be cured. Thank you!

Thanks.....yea it's been two very loooong years, so its good to finally hear something other than a mini van with an exhaust leak! I've been playing with it and tweaking timing and fuel pressure here and there and I've basically got it where I think it's as good as it's gonna get without a dyno. First and second gear are useless.....which isn't really a good thing, but that means the cars makin some good power. Cant wait to get it dyno tuned and start driving it! And by the way, it's too bad my bro parted his out. It was nice at one point. We have another on the way though, because my other brother just bought a baby blue 1990 RS. VERY clean car, but it's a 6 cyl so a swap may be in it's near future, haha! Start looking for him on here soon.
