ministarter
My stock 305 starter is on it's last legs, I think i'll get my brother to grab me one out of the good 'ol USA on his next trip.
What's my best bet, dollar for dollar?
I hear gear ministarters are where it's at. Factory ones for LT1 engines, etc?
I have a 153 tooth flywheel and 10:1 CR in a 350. Nothing too exotic.
Is the powermaster 9100 a good deal, $120 sounds pretty good. Or am I better off hitting up a Kragan/shucks/pep-boys and buying a starter for a 1995 Corvette or something?
Thanks

Re: ministarter
I believe the later 262 V-6 used the same starter. Any stock reman with a new solenoid and good warranty should be sufficient. 10:1 isn't an issue, since many of the factory engines are running close to that on these starters.

Re: ministarter
I was under the understanding that these factory style SBC starters (the old ones) are big, heavy, and inefficient. And that i'd be better off with a newer style mini-starter.
"any stock reman" meaning I walk into the parts store and ask for a starter for a 1982 TA with a 305? I figured if the price is close to $100 I might as well get the powermaster off summit. Is it worth it?

Re: ministarter
I have an LT1 starter on mine. Id say its about 3/4 the size... noticable in weight.
Depending upon what starter you currently have, you may need different bolts....some have 2 longs. Some have 1 long 1 short. But otherwise, direct fit.

Re: ministarter
yeah go LT1 starter, I use it and am very pleased with it, I had a procomp mini in it before and it sounded like a mopar starting, hated it. The LT1 starters are about half the weight.
I believe in 93 they used the 2 long bolts and in 94 or 95 they went to a 1 long and one short bolts.

Re: ministarter
Mine currently uses the one long one short, but the block is cracked at the outboard spot (long bolt I think) so i'm just using a B7 stud and nut.
I'll call up a parts store and ask for a starter for a 1995 Corvette then. Thanks
