New Engine plan... any comments?

New Engine plan... any comments?
Hey guys. I finally picked up an 88 350 long block to start my engine build. I wanted to run my idea past you guys to see what you think.
Here is the build.
350 block out of an 88 Firebird
This Voodoo Cam
These World Sportsman II Heads
I am going with 1.52 Comp Cams Magnum roller rockers, and the appropriate Lunati Springs to support the Cam lift.
I plan on re-using the crank and rods from the motor, getting flat-top or dished pistons to keep the compressions right around 9.1 or 9.3-1 and going with a TCI stall converter. The dyno at the machine shop said I should be running right around 300-320Hp and 400ft-lbs of torque at the flywheel.
I am keeping all the accessories from my 305 including my Q-jet carb, AC etc.
So what do you think? Decent or too much?

first that particular cam is for an LS1
you might like some thing bigger than that anyway and more compression unless you plan on driving it every day

Re: New Engine plan... any comments?
stock rods an crank that are inspec. will handle all the HP that engine is going to put out at this point besides that is $1000 of extras that you dont need to make a 350 fast... plus machining on top of that....

BINGO! Stock crank and rods should be good to 400 hp easy. Just upgrade the rod bolts. Thats truly one of the weakest links in the rotating assembly.

Re: New Engine plan... any comments?
yeah well i wont argue with people over motor building just giving a sugestion, IMO using stock parts is just limiting yourself. specially when u can buy new better parts for a little bit more then having your stock stuff inspected and machined....id rather have a 350 thats making plenty of power that i dont have to worry about being a time bomb then having a motor running stock internals making power running on the ragged edge...you want a good reliable motor build it right with good parts and about 9:1 compression and have power and reliability.....

Re: New Engine plan... any comments?
didnt see it but have heard of it, all well and good not saying that the sbc cant take some hellacious abuse, but lets not be ignorant about it, how long do you think that motor would last constantly on 500hp or maybe even 400....it could make it or it might blow, its a coin toss.....im saying for a lil bit more money he could build a qulity stout motor, but its a moot point cause for the 300 hp he wants stock stuff will be fine, but most people will want more after a while...

Re: New Engine plan... any comments?
Is it possible to use a cam made for 1997 - 2002 in a 1988 block? I had a non-LS1 350 from a 96 Silverado that I wanted to put this cam in originally. However that block is now 1000 miles away in a storage facility. I didn't have enough room to bring it with me when I moved. I found an 88 Roller block and figured it would work. I thought Cams were pretty swappable overall?

LOL I've got a 67 Camaro sitting in a garage at my Parents place that needs a Frame-Off. When I get settled in a place where I have my own garage and can once again use my tools...I plan on going a little insane with it. Say...Twin Turbo LS7? hehehe You can click the link in my sig to see the car as it is now. Hasn't been driving since 2000...

Hmm...no, that's not bad at all. Mild enough for a daily driver and yet still fairly aggressive.
