The oil pan will have to be off. If it's a factory crank, it will have casting numbers on it. You can also tell by the parting line on the crank. If it's an aftermarket crank, it may be harder to tell.

Re: how to varfy a crank is forged?
All crankshafts have a casting number located on one of the rough finished throws or counterweights towards the front of the crank.
Forged crankshafts are easily identified vs cast because a forged crank will have a wide parting line running down the length of the crank, while the cast crank has a thin parting line.
Look for a casting number similar to a head or block casting number.

Best way is by casting number like previously said, or parting line, but dont forget about sound, hit is with a wrench a nice ring is usually heard if its forged....

how much hp and what rpms are you looking to run?
the scat 9000 series cast crank is rated for 7500 rpms and 500hp, but ive seen some 600 to 700hp builds with them, and are a bargain at about 180 bucks

3932442 cast crank was used in 1969-1985 305's and 350s. Large journals and 2 piece rear main seal.
I'd run with what you have. It'll be a lot cheaper. If you buy a new crankshaft, you'll have to get your rotating assembly balanced. It depends what your goals are with the engine. Have the crank magnafluxed. If it's cracked, then buy a new crankshaft.
