Right Plug Wires-please help?

I need to figure out which spark plug wires my car takes. I haven't had my 91 RS (305 TBI) very long, and the current wires look aftermarket. Some of the wires have 90deg boots some have straight boots, no apparent rhyme or reason.

I went to jegs.com to order their jeg's brand 8.0mm wires ( http://www.jegs.com/p/JEGS/758101/10002/-1/10691) there are so many listed for "Small-Block Chevy" that I wasn't sure so I called jeg's and asked for help. What they sent me doesn't look right. 90deg boots at both ends, but one end has a metal connection (female) protruding from the boot. Picture here: http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...-1&showValue=1

My wires don't have the brass looking connector protruding. Everything on my engine is stock.

Can someone point me to the right wires? The first link above is the listing of jeg's brand wires. Thanks!!

The brass terminal ends of the wires are protruding for photo purposes only, the boot slips down and covers them completely once installed. Most chevy kits are sold with 2 straight plug wires and 6 90* plug ends or all 90* plug ends depending on how you route the wires to the distributor, and what type of exhuast manifolds you have.

Re: Right Plug Wires-please help?

Thanks dirty white, do you know which plug end set up is best for stock exhaust manifolds?

If I can get way with using the ones that already came in the mail I would like to, but I know these cars plugs/wires can be enough of a pain with everything right.

I'm not sure about yours 100 percent, but most of the stock setups I've seen use all 90* plug ends, the wires run between the manifolds and the block and there are wire holders to use already in place, unfortunately the extreme temps. often dry out the plastic parts of the holders and it doesn't seem to matter how careful you are undoing them, there is a good chance they might break. Replacements are not that expensive but I can't tell you who would carry the factory style pieces for sure other than the dealership.

When you get under the car you will see some hard wire bolted to the motor that the wire looms from the factory clip onto, I don't know if the Jegs ones will snap on but take a look at whats there, maybe they are still usable.

Well, it sounds like what I have will work. So I guess all the different variations are really just to help you fit the wire and bbot around your application? Is the exact wire I have critical, as long as it fits?

I don't want to ruin them by trying to install them and then I can't return them.

Re: Right Plug Wires-please help?

I don't see any reason for the set you have to not work. The main differences in sets are the differences in where the wires are routed, avoiding the heat from exhuast manifolds is the critical part. Often stock manifolds are so large that it dictates running the wires underneath to the back of the block, while headers have enough room to safely route the wires in various ways. The other consideration is the lenght of wire, the kit you have will be fine, but if you were going for a certain look with headers you can buy either custom fit wires for an additional expense or more commonly and less expensive, a set of wires that you cut to fit and crimp the ends on yourself with special plug wire crimps. Stock is fine till you are ready to really customize what the entire under hood compartment looks like.
