What intake gaskets should I use? And what is this metal tab?

Ok well I am finally swapping out my Victor Jr for a Edelbrock RPM air-gap. I am doing this to help the motor's TQ curve. I want to move it down. If it doesn't enough I may swap cams after this but first things first.

Anyways, My real question is what intake gaskets do I need to use?

I took the motor appart and found these on there:
1256

What is the little metal plate for? Also what is that hole for in the heads I have? Looked like an oil vent hole by the deposits I found around and in it.

I would assume that the metal plate helps to let the hot oil though.

The recomended gaskets that summit and trickflow list don't have these metal plates/holes.
1205

On top of all that I am confused as to why these two different gaskets have different hole dimentions.... Ugh... This is pretty unclear to me.

Tonight I am going to caliper the openings on my heads and go from there I guess.

Thanks for any help.

Thats the EGR crossover port, for smog heads and an EGR valve. I think the plate is just to help keep the gasket from burning out.

Re: What intake gaskets should I use? And what is this metal tab?

Oh, that makes sense. I am not using EGR. Should I still use the metal plate gaskets? And let the gasses stop at the intake?

I don't want the gaskets to burnout...

Or is this a non-issue that I am making a big deal out of nothing?

If this is not a big deal, explain why. Thanks everyone.

Your intake won't have the hole there, so it won't matter at all whats there.
Caliper your head openings and get the gaskets to match. Felpro's have the dimensions listed on summit.

get felpro gaskets. i use felpro gaskets on every single car that i do and none have leaked since. from head gaskets to o rings i find them to be best quality.

both are felpro, and both are listed as working. I just need to caliper the heads I guess and find out what fits better. I kind of want to get the one with the metal plates cuz I like the idea of the EGR not exitting on the gasket face itself. Seems like a good idea.

The recomended gaskets that summit and trickflow list don't have these metal plates/holes.
1205
In my mind, enough said - 1205. If you won't take the word of the people that designed and built the heads, what are you expecting to find here?

Re: What intake gaskets should I use? And what is this metal tab?

Well I am trying to follow the logic of the builder that built the engine too.

On top of that, the trickflow site, lists two gaskets as recomended. They are very very different.

the 1205 and the 1266.
1266

and the
1205

Now if you look at the part #s on summitracing.com they have almost every spec different. They can't both fit like a glove, so I am trying to find out how they are both listed. Hoping that someone on here would know why.

Thank you.

Re: What intake gaskets should I use? And what is this metal tab?

Unless that was a typo (1266), and you really meant the 1256, I sure as hell wouldn't use the 1266. The port size is pretty huge on it, and it's also twice the thickness of the 1205 or 1256. If you need your EGR system to function, I'd say go with another set of the 1256's since the 1205's don't have a hole of any kind for the EGR crossover. The 1256's port size is a tad smaller, but probably not enough to matter. In fact, I bought a set of the 1205's for my intake and didn't even realize there's no EGR passage holes in them until I logged on to your thread. Guess it's a good thing I'm going to disable the EGR system in the PROM! I'm going to be using AFR 190's on my setup, and when I calipered the port openings, they're probably closer to the 1256 port size than the 1205 port size. I would imagine your Trickflow's ports are probably pretty close in size to my AFR's if you have 195's. Even if you decided to use the 1205, you could make a hole in them for the EGR. The metal plates really don't matter too much since most intake gaskets with the passage holes don't have any metal around them. Look at the 1204 for a good example. If you made your own holes in them, I'd just smear a little rtv on both sides of the gasket where the holes are.

Re: What intake gaskets should I use? And what is this metal tab?

Well if you search for this : TFS-30400013-CNC. Those are my heads.

The 1266 is a suggested part #. Thats what I am so confused about. People are saying don't worry get suggested part #s, but they are listing very different parts. I know both wont work so I need to know what to get.

I def don't need my EGR. My car is built like it is from the 60's. I have no computer, it is a gen I block with a carb. T-56, and Moser 12 bolt.

So I def don't need the EGR. I guess I will caliper them and go from there.
