problem with the distributor getting hot!!!

Transmission: t56 6 speed
Axle/Gears: quick perfomance 9 inch with 4.11s
problem with the distributor getting hot!!!

on my 1990 camaro when it gets to hot it idles and runs horrible if you punch it , it dies. if you hit the brakes to hard it dies. but when it is cool it runs awesome and the mechanic said it was the distributor....anybody else have this problem?

87 to 92 small cap distributor has three problems. The pickup coil winding breakdown, modules go bad, or the distributor shaft looses it's magetisms. If you turn the dist. shaft, and you do not feel the resistance between the rotor and the pole piece, then the dist shaft is bad. In your case, when the pickup coil gets hot, it has too much resistance and with not trigger the module or the module is bad. Check the output from the pick coil with the engine hot and cold. It should put out at lease 400 mv. If there is a big different in voltage than the pick coil is bad. Those dist do the same thing on caprices, s10, ck, but not g van or astros. When I use to rebuild distrutors, I would replace the dist shaft, pickup coil and module to be safe.

Thank you for your advice i had it checked out ,,and decided to just by a new excel high performance distributar and it is working awesome...
i really really appreciate your advice thank you so much.
