i'm new to the site so i hope i'm in the right place.i know that electric motor paint is the thing to use if you can get it but its hard to locate place's that have it and i priced it on line and found it to be pricey but again if i could get it i would.availability doesn't seem to be great.what else are some of you using that works and doesn't come off when prepped right?i have a block that i am detailing now and will soon go to the machine shop.when it comes back it will be readyfor paint along with the lifter valley this time.never done it before though i have known about it for yrs.i'd appreciate any help or experiance's you've had.

 

Glyptal is the motor paint. It's expensive though.

Any epoxy enamel is great. Think of the paint on your stove.

I just used Tremclad. Prep is KEY. Did I mention that it's KEY? Scrub it clean, dry it, then leave it in the sun to be nice and warm. Tape off areas (like lifter holes, it sucks scraping paint out of those holes...). Spray bomb it with some primer, then brush on your main paint. That's what I did, and it doesn't come off.

 

I used Tremclad and painted it with a 1" brush. I used white and did 3 coats. My block was new when I did it so prep work was minimal. I also painted the area behind the timing chain cover.

I've had my intake off a couple of times and the paint is still stuck to the metal. The gloss white as turned into an eggshell white. Still makes it easy to see bits of dirt or metal.

 

thanks for your reply guys.i remembered that i had bought some tie-coat from p.o.r. that i could use as a base coat but even better i just found an electric motor parts repair and supply house to buy the glytal from and they're even near my house.so thanks for your help but problem solved.not to worry though there will be another one just around the corner.
