Lt1 intake, cc305 cam on TPI L98 engine, What stall torque conv. should I use?

Just like the title says I am wondering what rpm I should be looking for in a torque convertor for my car. I'm thinking 2600-2800? That sound about right for an L98 with an lt1 intake and cc305 cam?

Car also has, or will have, the following:

MSD distributor
28lb injectors
1.5 or 1.6 roller rockers
Edelbrock headers
3.27 gears
home ported 083 heads, might get a set of cnc'd patriot heads
self burnt prom (when i get the engine done)

The list can go on but I don't think anything else will effect TC rpm.

I'm new to having an auto, my last car was a 5 speed.

Thank you for the reply. This sound right to anyone else or does anyone think I should go a bit higher?

Your TC choice will be fine. I'd rethink that CC305 cam though. It's better suited to a supercharged engine. It also has old-style slow ramps and too-wide lobe separation for a good naturally aspirated powerband.
If your cam options are still open and you like Comp, go with a CC502.

Re: Lt1 intake, cc305 cam on TPI L98 engine, What stall torque conv. should I use?

if this is the cam i think it is...its very similar to mine but on a 114 lobe seperation instead of a 112 like mine....
my 276hr(224/230 dur @ .05) cam worked very well in my 355 HSR....if looking for serious performance, i would go with a 3000 stall.....if you want more of a cheaper or daily driven type converter then i would suggest a 2500 stall. If you want to go REALLY cheap then just get an S10 stall converter.
Like an idiot, I had a S10 stall converter behind my 383 and was cussing myself after seeing my 60 foot times. But if my firebird was a daily driver, I'd be happy.
----------
Edit- Here are my times with S10 converter

Re: Lt1 intake, cc305 cam on TPI L98 engine, What stall torque conv. should I use?

89formula, your cam sounds like the CC503 which has the better lobes like the CC502, but would be too much for a 305 TPI. the rest of the engine would sign off by the time you got enough revs for that cam to work well.

Edit: Oops, I had "305" in my head and missed that you're working with 350 cubes. Take Orr's advice in the post below this one. The CC503 cam would be my choice with the >3000 converter, CC502 for the 2600-2800 converter.

is it more of a street car? or will it see strip time and do you want the most out of the setup?

street car a 2600-2800 would be great. for a street strip car i'd go 3200 for best ET's with a 3.73 gear. those 3.27's will work ok but leave alot on the table

Re: Lt1 intake, cc305 cam on TPI L98 engine, What stall torque conv. should I use?

I was thinking of getting a set of 3.45's or 3.7 gears. The gears are hard to find for 9 bolts though. I think 9bolt.com has some. The car will be mostly driven on the street but it is not a daily driver.

I just looked up the specs on the cam, it is the 276HR-14 cam.

The specs from summit (part number 08-305-8):

Brand:COMP Cams
Product Line:COMP Cams Computer-Controlled Camshafts
Part Type:Camshafts
Cam Style:Hydraulic roller tappet
Basic Operating RPM Range:1,800-5,800
Intake Duration at 050 inch Lift:220
Exhaust Duration at 050 inch Lift:230
Duration at 050 inch Lift:220 int./230 exh.
Advertised Intake Duration:276
Advertised Exhaust Duration:290
Advertised Duration:276 int./290 exh.
Intake Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio:0.510 in.
Exhaust Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio:0.510 in.
Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio:0.510 int./0.510 exh. lift
Lobe Separation (degrees):114
Intake Valve Lash:0.000 in.
Exhaust Valve Lash:0.000 in.
Computer Controlled Compatible:No
Grind Number:CS 276H-R14
Quantity:Sold individually.
Camshaft, Hydraulic Roller Tappet, Advertised Duration 276/290, Lift .510/.510, Chevy, Small Block, Each

Lift with 1.6 rr's would be .544

I have looked up this cam here on the boards and have seen alot of people use it.

Re: Lt1 intake, cc305 cam on TPI L98 engine, What stall torque conv. should I use?

Are you open at all to advice on the cam?
The Comp 305 is a bad choice. Unless it's a supercharged application, that cam is sold to uninformed customers that think they want a relatively long duration for bragging rights or just think bigger is better. The way-too-wide 114 LSA is a crutch to save them from themselves when it comes to low speed driveability and tunability. Go with ANYTHING on a 110 to 112 LSA and your overall powerband will be much better. Even though the CC503 (224/230/112) sounds like a more radical cam, it's modern lobes with faster ramps result in less overlap and better overall powerband than the CC305.

I'm done now

Actually I can't change the cam because I already have it. However I have heard only good things about this cam from people that have used it until now.

Edit: Wanted to add that I am burning my own chips so tuning wont be an issue

In my edit above, I was referring to jamez74's engine being a 350 rather than a 305.

Yeah, 89f.., the CC503 in your 385 should be a stump puller!
