flexplate issue...

I have two flexplates. Both go for internal balanced small blocks.
They are both for twopiece rear main seal.
The one that came off my stock 305 is smaller than the other one in diameter.
Why?

So the starter can be a little closer to the engine. Frees up room for things like exhaust.

Re: flexplate issue...

but the starter doesnt get any closer, it's bolted in the same spot. I am running the smaller factory starter tho.

If i run this flywheel, will my starter still be able to engage it?

Re: flexplate issue...

The smaller factory starter, with the bolt holes in line with each other - not staggered, will want the smaller flywheel.

Re: flexplate issue...

Stock-type staggered starters use the larger one, 168 tooth.

Yes it does, and no it doesn't.

As already stated, 153-tooth (the smaller) is the factory 3rd gen size. If your starter is the factory one, it will engage it.
